The Beach Boys come on the music scene as one of the first rock and roll bands. No front man named and a cohesive group who played their own instruments. Surfin USA was their first hit. Members were brothers and cousins Mike Love, Brian Wilson, Carl Wilson and Dennis Wilson

Music News 1962

Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons release their first hits, Sherry and Big Girls Don't Cry. Subsequent  hits followed: Dawn, Walk Like a Man, Let's Hang On, Working My Way Back To You, and Can't Take My Eyes Off You. The Four Seasons were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990

Mick Jagger and Keith Richards meet Brian Jones at The Ealing Club  in London.

Bob Marley releases his first record, Judge Not. It is also the year Jamaica becomes an independent nation

Ringo Starr joins the Beatles after they fire Pete Best. They release their first single, Love Me Do in the UK. 

Rock & Roll 1962

Dick Dale and the Del-Tones

Dick Dale invented surf music in the 1950's and was soon given the title King of the Surf Guitar. He was the first to test and use the new Stratocaster guitar from Fender. He was also the first to jump concert volume from the standard 4 setting of the time, to 10. Though infamous in Southern California drawing large crowds for years, it wasn't until 1962 that Miserlou became a national hit. Dale greatly influenced not only the Beach Boys and the Chantays (Pipline) but Jimi Hendriks as well.

Rhythm & Blues 1962

Howling Wolf, one of the mighty of the Chicago Bluesmen has a hit with this album that includes Little Red Rooster made famous by The Rolling Stones and Back Door Man by The Doors.

Jazz 1962

Acker Bilt, Stranger on the Shore. Grammy Hall of Fame Album for 1962.

The Lonely Bull  by Herb Alpert and The Tijuana Brass crosses over from Jazz to Pop.

Country & Western 1962

Thinking Ray Charles is nuts for wanting to do a C&W album, his handlers produce it expecting a flop. Ray Charles Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music is not only a hit, but in the top 100 of albums of all time and #2 album of all time on the Country Charts
