The series starred Buddy Ebsen, Irene Ryan, Donna Douglas, Max Baer Jr. and Nancy Kulp as Miss Hathaway. The Ballad of Jed Clampett was  performed by Flatt and Scruggs which hit #44 on the music charts and was a #1 country hit.

The first 90 minute Western starring James Drury and Doug McClure.  Acclaimed stars Lee J. Cobb and Stewart Granger did separate seasons as the ranch owner.

The show was a modernized Sgt Bilko with Academy Award winner Earnest Borgnine playing straight man to Joe Flynn (Lt. Commander "Leadbottom" Binghamton) and Tim Conway (Ensign Parker). Much like Don Knotts in The Andy Griffith Show, Conway stole the show.

For those who do not remember Freberg, he was the Weird Al Yankovich (who says Freberg was his idol as a kid) of his day.
