Welcome to Multimedia Sixties. This is part of a larger project called The Year That Was which will soon include all post WW2 decades. We will be working next on the Seventies and Eighties before we get back to the Fifties which was the decade of television. We welcome any help with content and corrections to help improve this project. If anyone would like to help or contribute in any way Email us.

The idea for this website is akin to Mama Bear's porridge, not too big, not too small but just right.

On the big side there is
Wikipedia formatted in plain text with excessive links and complicated navigation. On the small side are all the Sixties and Seventies websites which are mostly just text lists of facts or commercial storefronts posing as Sixties, Seventies, Boomer and Classmates sites.

Multimedia Sixties is designed for easy navigation to present the years of the 1960s with as many graphics, sounds, music and videos as we can squeeze in without bogging it down. It is a meant to be a fast moving retro and nostalgic journey through the Sixties with a little splash and fun in mind.

Though the Sixties as a cultural event began at the end of 1963 and moved well into the Seventies we present the decade numerically from 1960 to 1969 so the entire project will work properly.

While working on this we found that that happenings in one year were often credited to the next by awards and such, and adding to that confusion is the time difference between when technology was invented, when it was first marketed and when it came into common use. Editorial decisions had to be made regarding these issues as well as what to exclude to make this all move along. We more than welcome your complaints, advice and corrections.

little radioThe car radio graphic appears upon each year's music page. Clicking on the radio icon opens your media player in a new window (or tab). In a matter of a seconds it will begin to stream about 15 minutes of music from that year. It does not stop when a new page loads or when you leave the website. To stop it use the controls on your music software.

little speakerThe blue speaker icons contain short embedded audio clips. These are pre-loaded so clicking them will play a short sound immediately without having to open your media player. They cannot be stopped but run only a few seconds.

tv
Some videos are being served from YOUTUBE while others
we are serving ourselves using embedded flash files. Both should work for you though you do need Adobe flash in your browser.

Important! We are very open to expanding this website. If you are a fan of a TV show, a movie, a musical artist, a political person or event, a car, an athlete or a book and would like to create a single page of your own on a subject we would be more than happy to design it, code it, present it and link to it from here.

Also we have left links out of most everything hoping to get email with ideas for outside links and more importantly, getting external links to us! :) If anyone chooses to link to us please let us know so we can reciprocate.

Thank You for coming by and we hope you had fun
